Operating manual and Safety instructions for double
knife cutting machinery
The pressure exerted by the top arms on the pair of
blades is set at the factory to 130 –160 N (13-16 kp ).
The pressure can be adjusted by moving the rubber
block in the holder when the locking screw is released.
But this is not of any great significance. The pressure
must be checked, at all events, after 50 working hours,
and in the event of repairs or the bar hitting solid
obstacles.
Checking the pressure
Remove the blades. Close the guide arms. The front
bottom edge of the guide arm must be approx. 1 mm
lower than the bottom side of the bar back , enabling
the pressure to be correct when the blades are refitted.
Use a straight edge ( Fig. A, page 3) for this purpose.
If it is necessary to reset the pressure, loosen the screws
of the clamping clips (A1, page 3) and knock the rubber
blocks higher or lower to the point where the correct
position is achieved.
Attention ! Retighten the locking screw.
Blade guide plates
The task of these plates is to prevent the blades from jumping and becoming distorted when
stones or other things not requiring to be cut enter the blades.
• The oblong holes in the plate provide for exact adjustment.
• When the blades are in the end positions, they rest against the vertical face of the blade
guide plate.
Trouble Shooting and Remedies
Fault
• Cutting performance deteriorates
suddenly
• Clippings or cuttings get stuck
between the blades
• The tips of the knife sections on
the bottom blade cut into the knife
sections of the top blade
• The cutter bar rattles over its full
length
• The knife sections are not resting
on top of one another
• Guide arms jump out of the studs
on the bottom blade
Cause
• Blades are blunt, no point
in carrying on with work
• Blades are blunt
• Blades are not straight
• Knife sections not in
alignment
• Bottom arms bent
• Top blades are too far in
front of bottom blades
• One or several bottom
guide arms are not resting
on the studs of the bottom
blade
• Knife sections or blades
bent, blade backs twisted
• Guide arms bent
Remedy
• Replace blades or regrind,
remove burrs with a hand
grindstone
• Replace blades or regrind
• Remove blades and
straighten
• Straighten knife sections
• Straighten bottom arms
(Figs. H, K1 and K2)
• Bend the top guide arm
shorter
• Fold up the top arms and
place the bottom arms on
the studs, clean and
grease the blind holes,
close the top arms
• Check straightness of the
blades and straighten, if
necessary, to the point
where the knife sections
are also in alignment
• Straighten arms (Figs. H,
K1 and K2)
