Warning instructions and safety provisions for lead-
acid batteries
4. Charging outside the motor mower
• Remove the battery for recharging. If you leave the
battery inside the mower during recharging, the
battery wire must be disconnected. (If necessary,
adhere to manufacturer’s instructions).
• Connect the positive pole (+) of the battery and the
positive pole (+) of the battery charger and the
negative pole (-) of the battery and the negative pole
(-) of the battery charger.
• Switch on the battery charger after having connected
the battery. When charging is finished switch off the
battery charger first.
• An ampere-hour capacity 1/10 is recommended as
charging current (e.g. 9 ampere-hour:10=0.9 ampere
charging current).
• The temperature of the acid must not exceed 55
°
C
during charging. Otherwise charging must be
interrupted
• The final charging state is attained when the acid
density and charging voltage remain constant for 2
hours.
• Check the acid state after charging and add
desalinated or distillated water, up to max acid
marking or 15 mm above plate upper edge.
• Provide for good ventilation during charging.
5. Maintenance
Adhere to the instructions listed below for long service
life battery:
• Keep the battery surface clean and dry.
• Check the acid level regularly and add desalinated
or distillated water, if necessary. Never add acid. In
case of high water losses, the regulator voltage must
be checked by a technician.
• Do make no use of the so-called improvement means.
• Battery charging state can be controlled by means
of acid density measurements. If the acid density is
below 1,21 kg/l (bzw. 1,18 kg/l with filling acid 1,23
kg/l) the battery must be recharged (see item 4). The
battery featuring this density factor is anti-freeze
resistant up to - 15
°
C (at 1,28 kg/l up to - 70
°
C).
6. Jump start
• Use only standard jumper cables (e.g. according to
DIN 72 553).
• Follow instructions referring to jump start cables.
• Only connect batteries with identical nominal voltage.
• Connect cable poles:
Both motors are switched off!
Connect first the positive poles 1 and 2, then connect
the negative pole of the charged battery 3 with a
metallic bare point on the needy motor mower 4
offside the battery. (Observe manufacturer’s
instructions, if necessary).
Battery of
helping vehicle
Battery of the
motor mower
requesting jump
start
• Start the helping vehicle, then start the motor of the
motor mower max. 15 secs.
•
Disconnect cable poles:
Disconnect cables in reverse order.
7. Set out of service
• Charge the battery (see item 4) and keep it in a cool
place.
• If you leave the battery inside the motor mower
disconnect negative poles.
• Check the charging state regularly (see item 5).
