Chapter 6: Installing the handles, leg support and mattress.
Chapter 6:
Installing the handles, leg
support and mattress.
REQUIRED TOOLS
• Cordless Drill w/ #2 Phillips bit
• 7/16” Socket
• 1/2” Socket
Using the handles and provided screws from Hardware
Package #9, attach the handles to the Bed Face Panel at the
location of the pre-drilled holes. It may be easiest to have one
person hold the handle on the Bed Face Panel while another
person tightens the screws from the backside with a drill.
STEP 1
REQUIRED HARDWARE
• Hardware Package #4
• Hardware Package #5 (Optional)
• Hardware Package #9
At this point you can install the mattress in the frame, balancing
the spring tension will be covered in the next chapter. The mattress
sits directly on top of the support stiffeners. It’s normal to have
a height difference between the support stiffeners and the bed
doors. This isn’t an issue with nearly all mattresses, since the
difference is distributed throughout the mattress.
STEP 2
If you would like to even out the difference under the mattress (e.g. for thin
mattresses), you can level out the difference with rigid insulation panels. These
can be found at any home improvement store, and are usually white or blue
(blueboard). They are low-cost, lightweight and can be carefully cut with a utility
knife to fit in the gaps between the support stiffeners.
FIG. 6B
Tighten the set screw post as much
as possible
with a hex key (shown in
Fig. 6B).
This helps to prevent the leg cylinders
from slipping out from the mounting
disk and to prevent the legs from
wobbling once assembled. Also note,
the set screw may already be tightened
fully.
STEP 4
With each leg, remove and
dispose
of
the nut that is already threaded onto the
set screw post as shown in Fig. 6A. If the
nut is missing, skip this step.
