Tank Cleaning
Note:
It has been our experience that with a properly chlorinated system there will be no sludge build-up
in the bottom of the RGW system. Under normal circumstances, it should be sufficient to clean the
tanks once every six months. Initially, we recommend that you inspect and clean the tank every
three months until you have determined the proper cleaning interval.
WARNING:
If a grey water bypass has not been installed, do not use the bath, shower or laundry while cleaning
the tank.
Procedure:
Unplug the pump AC power cable and the 24V DC power transformer from the power source.
1.
If a grey water bypass is installed, close the bypass valve to direct the grey water drainage to the
2.
sewer during this procedure.
If a potable water bypass is installed, open the bypass valve to provide potable water service to
3.
the toilets during this procedure.
Make sure that the system drain is connected to your sewer pipe or drains into an open trapped
4.
drain.
Open the clean out drain valve and empty the tank.
5.
Close the clean out drain valve.
6.
Remove the RGW system lid.
7.
Remove the black screw cap on the filter housing and remove the filter (See figure 6)
8.
Pour a minimum of five liters of household vinegar through the filter housing and leave for fifteen
9.
minutes.
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly around the bottom of the filter and to the O-ring on the filter
10.
housing screw cap. Replace the filter back into the filter housings and replace the screw cap.
Plug in the transformer to the power source, but DO NOT plug in the pump cable yet. Potable
11.
water should start flowing into the tank.
Open the clean out drain valve to allow the vinegar to drain as fresh water is added to the tank.
12.
Allow the tank to self-flush with potable water for five minutes.
Close the clean out drain valve with the fresh water still running, allowing the tank to fill until the
13.
internal fresh water valve automatically turns off the fresh water supply.
Close the fresh water bypass valve, and open the grey water bypass valve if applicable.
14.
Plug in the pump power cable.
15.
Replace the RGW system lid.
16.
After cleaning the tank, flush each toilet once to ensure proper function. During the cleaning process
of the tank, do a visual inspection of all fittings, connections and the tank to ensure there are no
leaks.
The overall time required for this procedure is approximately 30 minutes.
