Rule of the road
When entering another country involves
a switch to driving on the other side of
the road, adopt the following measures
to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic with
the headlights.
Cars with halogen headlights
To avoid dazzling oncoming traffic,
BMW Service can supply masking tape.
Follow the instructions supplied with
the tape.
Cars with xenon headlights
1. Turn the ignition key to position 0
2. Press the retainer and remove the
caps at the rear of each headlight,
see arrow
3. Left headlight: push lever 1 down.
Right headlight: push lever 1 up.
When you return to the country of regis-
tration or enter a country in which vehi-
cles are driven on the same side of the
road as in the country of registration:

Left headlight: push lever 1 up

Right headlight: push lever 1 down.
OBD socket
The socket for On-Board Diagnosis is
on the driver's side, at the left under the
fascia, and concealed by a cover. The
cover is marked OBD.
Components that have a decisive effect
on exhaust emissions can be tested at
this interface with a suitable device.
