Replace spark plug
Proper gap is 0.030
Bad ignition coil or on/off switch
Test with the following steps
:
1. Remove air filter cover.
2. Remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug carefully as to not
separate the contactor inside from the wire.
3. Remove the spark plug from the engine and place it back into the spark
plug wire.
4. Set the spark plug onto a metal surface of the unit in a position to see the
gap between the center and ground diode.
NOTE: Do not do the following steps in direct sunlight or other bright light
sources as it could affect your visibility of the test.
5. With the on/off switch set to on slowly pull the starter rope while maintaining
a visual of the two diodes to see if there is an arc.
6. If there is no arc the spark plug may be faulty. If spark plug has already
been replaced go tot he next step.
7. Disconnect the two small wires that come out of the loom of the spark plug
wire. There are two red and two black wires connected with quick connectors.
8. Repeat steps 4 & 5. If the spark plug arcs the on/off switch is bad and
needs replaced. If there is still no arc then the ignition coil has failed and
needs replaced.
9. When replacing the ignition coil the proper gap between the coil and flywheel
is 0.4mm (0.0157 inch)
Possible faulty spark plug
Set unit on the ground with the on/off switch set to on
Set the choke lever fully open
Squeeze the throttle lever all the way down
In quick short pulls try starting the unit until you hear a "pop" then let go of the throttle lever.
Follow start up procedure
An alternative to the above steps is to remove the spark plug and allow the cylinder and spark plug to "dry out".
The factory setting for this unit is at 1 - 1 1/2 turns out counter clockwise.
This unit it equipped with only one carburetor adjuster.
Allow unit to run and warm up. If idle is rough use 1/16th turns to fine tune the carburetor setting.
The proper tool for adjusting the carburetor is a pacman carburetor adjusting tool.
Depending on the area you live or the length of time the unit has been used will depend on where the carburetor
needs to be set.
Possible spark plug failure (see no spark)
Turn the carburetor adjuster clockwise until you feel it stop. DO NOT over tighten as damage can occur.
Turn the adjuster counter clockwise one quarter of a turn and try starting the unit (follow start up procedure. If unit
does not start repeat step until unit starts.
Allow unit to run and warm up. If idle is rough use 1/16th turns to fine tune the carburetor setting.
NOTE: The following steps can also be used if unit only runs with choke set half way.
Gas oil mixture has too much oil in mix. Remove gas from unit and remix to proper fuel gas ratio.
With a proper fuel mix if unit still wants to bog down or requires choke to be set half way the carburetor will need
adjustments.
Turn the carburetor adjuster clockwise until you feel it stop. DO NOT over tighten as damage can occur.
