ITEMIZED SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS
A. ENGINE OIL CHANGE - Always use SG quality oil of 10W-30 viscosity. The drain interval may be
altered depending upon severity of service and experience with specific oil or based on the recommenda-
tions and used oil analysis provided by oil suppliers. See your Owner’s Manual for additional details on
engine oil. Always change oils as soon as possible after driving in a dust storm.
B. ENGINE OIL FILTER CHANGE - Always change the filter as soon as possible after driving in a dust
storm.
C. TRANSMISSION SERVICE -
AUTOMATIC
Change the fluid and filters. (Filters include: oil pan filter, auxiliary filter and governor primary or sec-
ondary oil screen.) Refer to the General Motors’ Medium Duty Truck Service Manual and the Allison
Operator’s Manual for more information.

SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBRICANT
- Change the oil every 250,000 miles (400,000 kilometers). After over-
haul, change the oil at the first 3,000 miles (5,000 kilometers), then every 48,000 miles (80,000 kilometers).
GL.1 OR H.D. OIL
- Change the oil every 48,000 miles (80,000 kilometers). After overhaul, change the oil
at the first 3,000 miles (4,000 kilometers),then every 48,000 miles (80,000 kilometers).
D. ENGINE DRIVE BELTS SERVICE - Check all belts for cracks, fraying, wear and proper tension. Adjust
or replace as needed.
E. THROTTLE LINKAGE SERVICE - Check for damaged or missing parts, (including throttle return
springs), interference or binding. Fix any problems at once.
F. THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED ENGINE COOLING FAN SERVICE - With the engine off and
below normal operating temperature, check to see that the fan can be rotated by hand on viscous-oper-
ated drives. Replace as necessary.
G. SHIELDS AND UNDERHOOD INSULATION SERVICE - Check shields and underhood insulation for
damage or looseness. Adjust or replace as required.
H. FUEL FILTER(S) SERVICE - Replace filters at designated intervals.

EXHAUST SYSTEM SERVICE
- Check the complete exhaust system. Inspect cab areas near the exhaust
system. Look for broken, damaged, missing or out-of-position parts. Also, inspect for open seams, holes,
loose connections or other conditions which could let exhaust fumes seep into the driver and passenger
compartments. Needed repairs should be made at once. To help maintain system integrity, replace the
exhaust pipes whenever a new muffler is put on. Be alert to any change in sound or any odor of fumes.

FUEL CAP, FUEL TANK AND FUEL LINES SERVICE
- Check the fuel cap, fuel tank, vent valve and fuel
lines for damage which could cause leakage. Inspect fuel cap for correct sealing ability and any indica-
tions of physical damage. Inspect fuel cap gasket for an even filter neck imprint. Replace any damaged or
malfunctioning parts.
K. AIR INTAKE SYSTEM SERVICE - Check the air intake system installation to see that gaskets are seated
properly and that all hose connections, fasteners and other components are tight. Also, check to be sure
that the air cleaner housing is properly seated, the cover fits tightly and that the wing nut is tight. Tighten
connections and fasteners or replace damaged parts as required.
L. THERMOSTATICALLY-CONTROLLED AIR CLEANER SERVICE - Check installation to make certain
that all ducts are connected and correctly installed. Also, check valve for proper operation.
M. AIR CLEANER AND PCV FILTER REPLACEMENT - Replace at designated intervals or more often
under dusty conditions. Ask your dealer for the proper replacement intervals for your driving conditions.
N. TIMING AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP SERVICE - Adjust ignition timing following the underhood label
specifications. Please not that the timing tab on the bottom of the crank is for the #5 cylinder. The timing
tab on the top of the crank is for the #1 cylinder. Also, carefully inspect the interior and exterior of the
distributor cap, distributor rotor and inspect coil for cracks and terminal corrosion. Clean or replace as
necessary.
O. SPARK PLUG SERVICE - Replace spark plugs with the type listed in your Owner’s Manual. Inspect
wires for damage. Check the wire boot and boot heat shield fit at spark plugs. Replace wire as needed.
