SERVSWITCH™ PROFESSOR
5. Troubleshooting
The first two sections of this chapter discuss things to try when problems arise in a
ServSwitch Professor system. If the trouble you’re having with the Professor is
something you haven’t seen before, or if the trouble seems minor, try the
procedures detailed in
Section 5.1
before doing anything else. If the trouble is
chronic, see
Section 5.2
, which suggests possible causes and solutions to frequently
encountered problems. If those suggestions don’t help,
Sections 5.3
and
5.4
discuss what’s involved in calling Black Box and shipping your Professor.
5.1 Restoring Factory-Default Settings
If you’re having difficulty with a ServSwitch Professor, something that sometimes
helps is resetting the Professor to its factory defaults. Follow these steps
carefully
:
1. Turn OFF (but do not unplug) the Professor and the CPU attached to it.
Disconnect that Professor from the bus cable and thus from the rest of your
ServSwitch Professor system.
2. Look at the configuration (address) DIP switch on the bottom of the
Professor. Set the Professor’s address to 0 (all DIP-switch positions DOWN).
3. Turn the Professor back ON. After it powers up, change its address to 1 (the
rightmost DIP-switch position UP, all other positions DOWN).
4. Wait two seconds, then turn the Professor back OFF again.
5. Set the Professor back to its normal address.
6. Reattach the bus cable and turn the Professor back ON. Turn the attached
CPU back on.
The unit should be restored to its factory-default settings. See
Appendix A
for a list
of these.
Now reconfigure the unit to your desired settings. If you’re still having difficulty,
refer to
Section 5.2
. If it doesn’t help you to solve your problem, call Black Box for
technical support.
