The front panel of a ServSwitch Multi EXP (Expansion Chassis, KV160A-R2) or a ServSwitch Multi SB
(KV162RA), shown in Figure 2-7, has fourteen pairs of channel LEDs, each of which corresponds to a channel
slot in which you can install any kind of ServSwitch Multi Card. The Switch’s front panel also has POWER and
FAIL LEDs.

There are no pushbuttons and no display on the front panel, because EXPs and SBs do not have local consoles;
they are geared more to be subsidiary expansion units than standalone units, although with a User-Interface
Card installed they can easily perform all of the same keyboard-activated switching and command functions
that Base Units and MXs can.
The rear panels of the ServSwitch Multi EXP and ServSwitch Multi SB look identical to that of the Base Unit
(shown in Figure 2-3 in
Section 2.6.3
). However, instead of their leftmost slot containing the local module and
their next-to-leftmost slot having no corresponding front-panel indicator, all fourteen of the EXP’s and SB’s
slots are empty, and all of them have a corresponding pair of LEDs on the front panel.
You will need at least one Autosensing CPU-Interface Card (product code KV2000C) for each computer you
plan to attach to the EXP or SB, as well as one Universal User-Interface Card (KV2500C) or User-Interface Card
with On-Screen Display (KV2550C-R2) for each console. These cards and their cables are described in
Section
2.6.3
and are shown in Figures 2-4 through 2-6 on the previous page. You will also need at least one regular
Expansion Transmit Card (our product code KV1601C) or CAT5 Expansion Transmit Card (KV1603C), shown
in Figure 2-8 on the next page, if you want consoles on another ServSwitch Multi unit to be able to access
computers on the EXP. And you will need at least one Expansion Receive Card (KV1602C) or CAT5 Expansion
Receive Card (KV1604C), also shown in Figure 2-8, if you want consoles on the EXP to be able to access
computers attached to other ServSwitch Multis. To connect serially accessed control devices such as terminals
and routers, you’ll need a Management Card (KV1608C-R2) and one or more Serial Control Cards (KV1609C);
