Keep the connector plug away from heat and damp.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced
by the manufacturer or companies approved by the
manufacturer.
3. Maintenance of the instrument
HOMEX 7 – User Guide
4
The HOMEX 7 does not contain parts which may rust. However, it is important to store and operate the HOMEX 7 at
a dry place and clean the instrument after use. Prior to cleaning, power off the instrument and remove the connec-
tor plug. Immediately remove spills of extraction buffer with a humid soft cloth, then wipe dry - in particular when
buffer entered the ball-bearing head. Grease the two gliding axes (Fig. 1) daily with a soft cloth, wetted with oil or
by using an anti-corrosion protection spray. Check the holding-screws of the motor and the rack and tighten them
if necessary. Replace the aluminium bars holding the bags when they look worn. They are made of “soft” aluminium
to prevent the ball-bearing head from damage.

4. Introduction
The HOMEX 7 is an instrument for the homogenization of plant tissues. Plant material such as roots, leaves, and
wood slices, is inserted into a BIOREBA extraction bag with the appropriate amount of buffer. Up to 5 BIOREBA
extraction bags “Universal” or “Universal-U-form” can be inserted into the standard rack. For bigger samples, up to
4 BIOREBA extraction bags “Universal-Long” can be inserted into a 4/25 rack. The homogenized tissue is filtered
by the synthetic intermediate layer of the BIOREBA bags and can then be easily used for downstream applications
such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, ELISA, Lateral Flow Immunochromatography, etc.
Although the HOMEX 7 homogenizes any kind of plant tissues, it may be necessary to pre-treat certain samples
before homogenization: e.g., seeds may need presoaking, while wood slices and thick samples may need to be
flattened with a rubber hammer (not provided).
The HOMEX 7 can process up to 250 samples per hour. The buffer volume should not exceed 4 ml for BIOREBA
extraction bags “Universal-U-form” (Art. No. 440100), 10 ml for BIOREBA extraction bags “Universal” (Art. No.
430100), and 50 ml for BIOREBA extraction bags “Universal-Long” (Art. No. 470100).
