5. Never operate the engine with the air filter removed.
FUEL TANK STRAINER:
A screen-type fuel strainer is
located on top of the supply valve inside the fuel tank. The
screen should be inspected and cleaned every service in-
terval. With the gas tank(s) empty (drained through the
uel valve line with the valve set to reserve), carefully un-
screw the fuel supply valve from the tank. Inspect and clean
the fuel strainer, then reinstall the valve in the fuel tank.
ENGINE OIL:
Use only premium 20W50 V-Twin, deter-
gent motorcycle oil. The quality and cleanliness of your en-
gine oil, as well as maintaining the proper oil level, are three
factors in preventing abrasive wear inside your engine.
CHECK OIL LEVEL:
The engine oil level should be
checked when the engine is at normal operating
temperature. When checking the oil level, the motorcycle
must be straight up and level. Except for softail models
which must be checked when on the side stand. Remove
the seat on all models except the
PITBULL AND
RIDGEBACK
. Remove the oil cap by unscrewing counter
clockwise (all models). The oil level should be just up to
the bottom of the filler neck. Use caution to avoid overfilling
the oil tank.
PITBULL AND RIDGEBACK:
The oil tank is mounted
directly under the transmission with the oil cap and fill
neck located on the right and front of the oil tank. The
correct oil level should just reach the bottom of the fill
neck.
