WARNING! Your will need a helper to set the porch gable. The gable is heavy
and unstable until the center post and roof sheathing are installed. Use a 2x3,
leftover pallet material, to help hold the gable in position.
Step 19 Install Porch Gable & Center Posts

Install the porch gable over the corner porch posts. Secure by toe-nailing (nailing at an
angle) through the back of the 2x4 into the 2x6 tie plate. You can also nail through the
face of the 1x6 trim into the post using 8d galv. Nails.

Install the center posts. Use the railing to properly space the posts. Secure the posts by
nailing through the 2x4 into the post with 10d sinkers. Screw post bases to the floor with
2-1/2" screws. Be sure posts is plumb before securing.

Install a truss between the front gable and the front wall. Install truss 21-3/8" measuring
from the siding on the front wall. Secure by toe-nailing through the back of the 2x4 into
the 2x6 tie plate.
