Use a smoke pellet prior to the appliance installaon to ensure the viability of
the flue and check that the smoke can be seen being emiLed from the terminal /
chimney pot outside. There must be no leakage of smoke through the structure of
the chimney/flue during or aer the smoke pellet test and it is important to check
inside upstairs rooms adjacent to the chimney / flue. Check the chimney pot /
terminal and general condion of the brickwork or masonry. If the chimney or flue is
in poor condion or if there is no up-draught do not proceed with the installaon. If
there is a history of down-draught condions with the chimney / flue, the installaon
of a tested and cerficated flue terminal or cowl suitable for the relevant flue type

3.4.0
This appliance can be installed into a suitable fireplace or as a ‘Hole in the
Wall’ (HIW) type installaon. For both types of installaon the chimney or flue must
be either Class 1 (brick chimney or 7” diameter flue) or Class 2 (5” diameter flue) The
minimum effecve height of the flue must be 3 metres, (10’). The flue must be clear
of obstrucon and if the previous installaon was intended for solid fuel it must be
swept prior to this installaon proceeding.
Typical installaons will use the rear exit flue for 7” diameter unlined chimneys.
However, this appliance can be installed with a 127mm (5”) liner directly to the top
of the appliance. This liner (if fiLed) must extend from the appliance to the flue
terminal. For this type of installaon a minimum of 2m flue height is required.
3.4.1
If the base of this appliance is to be installed at a height less than 225mm then
a hearth constructed of non combusble materials must also be installed which is a
minimum of 12mm in thickness, extends a minimum of 200mm in front of the
appliance and 150mm each side of the appliance. This appliance must not be
installed directly onto carpet of other combusble floor materials. HIW installaons
can legally be installed without a hearth, however we recommend some form of
physical barrier be used to ensure no close proximity can take place.
