Setting up
Operational settings
Check and, if necessary, adjust the following
settings:
– DTE / DCE selection
– Protective ground/signal ground connection
– Power supply selection
DTE / DCE selection
According to the specific requirements of the
connected equipment the module may be
switched to either DTE (Data Terminal Equip-
ment) or DCE (Data Communications Equip-
ment) operation using the slide switches S
1
(brown) and S
2
(red) (information is con tained
in the documen tation of the terminal equip -
ment used).
Use a pointed object to push the switches to
the desired position.

Protective ground/signal ground
connection
If required, the protective ground (pin 1 of the
25-pin Sub-D connector) can be electrically
connected to the signal / power supply ground
(pin 7) by switch S
3
(orange).

Warning!
Never
supply a interface converter via Sub-D,
pin 18 and via low voltage socket at the same
time (S

in position D)!
Supplying at the same time may damage
terminal device and plug-in power supply!
Supply via low-voltage socket
- Using Hirschmann PSW 5-20 plug-in
power supply unit:
Plug connecting cable directly into the
low-voltage socket on the OZDV 2471

- Using + 5 V DC ±5% external supply:
Plug cable assembly with M8 connector
directly into the low-voltage socket on the
OZDV 2471 P/G … . For pin assignments
see Technical Data.
Supply via Sub-D connector
The power supply is established when the
module is plugged in. Supply with +5 V DC
(stabilised) or +8 … +15 V DC (non-stabili-
sed) is possible. For connector pin assign-
ments see technical data.
Warning!
In the case that you operate the module with
an external power supply:
only supply the system with a safety extra-
low voltage in accordance with IEC 950/
IEC 60 950/VDE 0805.
Optical fiber connection
Connect the two interface converters by a
duplex optical fiber equipped with BFOC 2.5
(ST
®
) plug connectors.
Be sure that one input (IN) and one output
(OUT) are connected to each other ("cross
over connection").
Attachment
Plug the 25-pin Sub-D connector of the inter-
face converter onto the corresponding
connector of the terminal device and secure it
in place using the two knurled screws.
Description
A transmission link consisting of two
OZDV
2471 P, OZDV 2471 G
or
OZDV 2471 G-
1300
interface converters and a duplex opti-
cal fiber can provide interference-free optical
data transmission of V.24 (RS-232 D) signals .
The transmission link operates in asynchro-
nous full duplex mode and can replace all
conventional 4-wire connections.
Data transfer takes place through two optical
fibers. For that reason, the terminal equip ment
must be able to handle software handshaking
(X on / X off transmission).
The information as to whether a terminal device
supports software handshaking can be found
in the appropriate manuals for the device in
question.
Mechanically, the interface converters are built
into compact 25-pin Sub-D connectors which
house all electronic compo nents.
Power supply of the interface converters occurs
either via the connected terminal device and
the Sub-D connector, via the plug-in power
supply PSW 5-2
or via external power supply.
The interface converters are suited for both
DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) and DCE
(Data Communication Equipment) use.
A slide switch is provided for setting the
converters to the individual terminal device's
operational mode (refer to the appropriate
manual).
Complete DC coupling of the modules gua -
rantees that the correct status is imme diately
transmitted after switching on the equipment.
This also allows the equipment to handle
arbitrarily long transmission interruptions
without problem.
A slide switch is provided for connecting the
protective ground to the signal ground.
