YUV 4:2:2 output is normally associated with color cameras, but in this case, it is avail-
able on
A641
f
monochrome cameras. When an
A641
f
is set for YUV 4:2:2, its output
will be in the YUV 4:2:2 format but the output will be monochrome, not color. This
monochrome version of the YUV 4:2:2 format is provided so that the camera can be
used with Windows XP accessories such as Movie Maker.

When an
A641
f
is set for a standard mono mode that outputs 16 bits per pixel, the cam-
era outputs 16 bits for each pixel but only 12 of the bits carry actual pixel information.
The 12 effective bits fill from the LSB and the unused bits are filled with zeros. Pixel
data is stored in the PC memory in little endian format, i.e., the low byte for each pixel
is stored at the lower address and the high byte is stored at the neighboring higher ad-
dress.
