•
Open the case as described in section
2.1.5 Opening the top cover of the Processor
•
Locate the memory sockets: The 184-pin slots (
AGS-3328
) and the 240-pin slots (
AGS-3389
) respectively are
lined up parallel and you will find them near the CPU. The 240-pin slots of
AGS-3390-1/-2
are close behind the
rear connection plate. Because the number of pins is different on either side of the breaks, the module will
only fit in the correct orientation.
•
Examine the memory modules before removing from the anti static bag. If there is any visible damage, do
not install the module and contact the manufacturer.
•
Do not remove the memory module from the anti static bag until you are ready to install it. Use a grounded
workplace. Do not lay parts on the anti static bags. Only the insides are anti static.
•
The order of the memory modules must be taken into consideration:
On the mainboard of the models
AGS-3328-2/-3
and
AGS-3389-0/-1
there are four sockets. The socket closest to
the CPU is the socket 1 followed by socket 3, socket 2 and socket 4; please see the figure above.
On the model
AGS-3389
the slots are in addition marked with a color code. The odd slots (slot 1 and slot 3) are
blue; the even slots (slot 2 and slot 4) are black.
On the model
AGS-3390-1/-2
the socket closest to the PCI slots is the socket 1A followed by sockets 1B, 2A, 2B,
3A, 3B, 4A and 4B.
Memory on AGS-3328-1/-2
Fastest memory access is achieved, if always a pair of sockets (socket 1 and 2 and socket 3 and 4) is equipped
with identical memory modules. The table below lists these optimal combinations:
Socket 1
Socket 3
Socket 2
Socket 4

Table 4-3
combinations of DDR2 RAM in the P
ROCESSOR
AGS-3389
With one UGX
G
RAPHIC
C
ARD
used in the P
ROCESSOR
AGS-3389 or the E
XTENDER
or with an OmniBus con-
figuration a maximal total memory of about 3 GB is reasonable.
With four UGX
G
RAPHIC
C
ARDS
used in the P
ROCESSOR
AGS-3389
or the E
XTENDER
a total maximal mem-
ory of about 2 GB is reasonable.
Inserting more memory will not lead to more RAM in the system due to limited memory address
space of the system.
