2.5. When should the AVG Rescue CD be used

The AVG Rescue CD should only be used in cases where the user suspects that the
computer is not working correctly, i.e. the computer repeatedly shows certain non-
standard behavior or displays various error messages. This includes (but is not
limited to) for example:

·

The computer cannot start (boot up) in the normal way.

·

The computer can be started, but a viral infection or similar threat was not
removable (even after system restart).

·

The computer repeatedly shows non standard behavior (freezes, self restarts,
etc.)

Of course the AVG Rescue CD is not a universal solution for all software issues
that may occur. Also note that a number of problems may be caused by a failing
hardware component, overheating of different components inside the computer and
so on.

Therefore please use the AVG Rescue CD wisely and if you do not understand its
functions properly, ask an advanced person with proper computer skills to assist
you.

2.6. Before installation

Before you start using the AVG Rescue CD, we recommend that you back-up all
your valuable data stored on your computer, (using removable backup media such
as floppy disks, CDs or DVDs, USB Flash disks etc.). The backup will prove very
useful in cases where it is not possible to recover the operating system. In such
cases it may be necessary to reinstall the OS completely or change some hardware
components, (as hardware failure is also a common reason for computer problems).

The AVG distributed with the AVG Rescue CD may not be completely up to date.
Therefore it is recommended to prepare AVG update files before you start working
with the AVG Rescue CD. Use one of the suggested update options below.
Updating is necessary to ensure the most current virus base and optimal
functionality of AVG.

Computer is connected to Internet

If the computer, on which you are going to use the AVG Rescue CD, is
connected to the Internet by LAN or certain types of CATV (cable Internet), i.
e. is able to automatically receive network settings from the DHCP server, or
you know the settings, then you do not have to follow the guidelines for
