W
All compressed air connections and control elements
must remain freely accessible after installation.
W
The HU1 holding unit must be attached in such a way
that it cannot be loosened by jolts, vibrations, or the
like.
Preparing for installation
1.
Stop system operation and protect it against being
switched on.
2.
Return all suspended loads to a statically secure
position or remove them from the system.
3.
If required, exhaust stored compressed air from
system parts in the immediate work area.
4.
Secure self-turning or other movable system parts
before starting installation.
Installing the cylinder with the holding unit in the
system
1.
Position the cylinder with pre-mounted HU1 holding
unit at the designated location in the system.
2.
Install the cylinder tension-free in the system using the
appropriate cylinder mountings. Observe the stated
tightening torques.
3.
Remove any protective caps from the cylinder
compressed air connections.
4.
Remove the assembly screw from the HU1 holding unit
and insert a compressed air connection.
– Ø 20-32 (ISO 6432/ISO 15552): M5
– Ø 40-100 (ISO 15552): G 1/8
5.
Connect the tubing to the compressed air connections
for the HU1 holding unit and the cylinder. Ensure that
the connections and tubing lines are free of dirt
particles and foreign matter.

Commissioning and
Operation
Starting up the system
1.
Switch the system on according to the system
specifications.
2.
After switching on, check immediately that the cylinder
and HU1 holding unit are working correctly.

Care and Maintenance
O
Clean the piston rod after every 200,000 strokes or if
there is visible contamination.
Shorter inspection intervals are required in the case of:
W
High temperatures
W
Unavoidably excessive contamination
W
Application near fat-dissolving liquids or vapors
WARNING
Danger of accidents due to uncontrolled movement of
the piston rod!
If only one cylinder chamber is supplied with pressure
when releasing the clamping jaws, the trapped air
volume expands suddenly and causes the piston rod to
jump (retracting or extending).
O
Use a suitable control to make sure that the cylinder
equipped with the HU1 holding unit is actuated in such
a manner that pressure is applied to both cylinder
chambers when the clamping jaws are released.
The piston surface area difference may lead to
undesired piston rod movements.
O
Before pressurizing the HU1 holding unit, make sure
that there is a force equilibrium on the piston of the
drive cylinder.
O
Configure the controls accordingly.
Excessive wear of the HU1 holding unit due to
impermissible dynamic loads!
Using the HU1 holding unit as a dynamic brake will
exceed the load limits of the unit.
O
Never use the HU1 holding unit as a dynamic brake.
NOTICE
Damage to seals and scraper due to aggressive
detergents!
Aggressive detergents may damage the material of the
seals and scrapers.
O
Only use mild detergents.
O
Do
not
use the HU1 holding unit in the food industry
if there is a danger of contact with the aggressive
detergents commonly used in that sector.
