Chapter 9
Working with Map Layers
Creating a VISION* Theme Layer
If you have VISION* theme data and the Autodesk MapGuide VISION* Data
Extension, you can create VISION* theme layers. Unlike other layer types,
each feature on a VISION* theme layer can be drawn with a different style
(font, color, line style, fill style, and so on). All display characteristics are
taken directly from the features themselves in the VISION* theme. Therefore,
you do not specify the styles for the layer, as you do with other types of layers
in Autodesk MapGuide Author, nor are the styles stored with the layer defi-
nition in the Map Window File (MWF).
To change the styles of the map features on a VISION* theme layer, you must
change the symbology definitions of the features in the VISION* theme on
which the layer is based. For details about styling a VISION* theme, refer to
the Cache Manager documentation.
For step-by-step instructions, choose Help
Contents, click the Index tab,
and look up “VISION*, creating VISION* theme layers.”
Creating an AutoCAD DWG Layer
If you have AutoCAD DWG files and the Autodesk MapGuide DWG Data
Extension, you can create AutoCAD DWG layers. You create AutoCAD DWG
Layers by choosing New Layer
AutoCAD DWG Layer from the popup
menu in the Design tab of the Map Explorer.
For details about setting up AutoCAD DWG layers, see the documentation
provided with the Autodesk MapGuide DWG Data Extension.
Creating a Layer Group
To organize your layers, you can create one or more layer groups and then
add layers to the appropriate groups. The layer groups appear in the Autodesk
MapGuide Author Map Explorer. You can specify whether or not they appear
in the Viewer legend. One advantage of using layer groups is that you can
turn on or off all of the layers in a layer group with a single command.
For step-by-step instructions, choose Help
Contents, click the Index tab,
and look up “layer groups.”
