Settings: VPN
When it is desired to transfer information securely between two networks (e.g. between the head
office and a satellite office) then a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnel can be configured
between the two networks which communicates with encrypted data. The Authonet firewall VPN
client can be configured to create an encrypted tunnel with a remote VPN server.
Click on Settings then VPN to see the page shown below. Enter information provided by the
remote VPN server, the server name, username, password and domain. When the data has been
entered click Save Changes.
The PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) operates on TCP port 1723. PPTP was developed by
Microsoft to encapsulate PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol).
Out of all the VPN protocols, PPTP is one of the most common, easiest to set up, and
computationally fastest. For that reason, PPTP is useful for applications in which speed is
paramount, like audio or video streaming.
