Class Ultra D amplifier technology
Unlike conventional Class D-amplifiers the „Class
Ultra D“ concept incorporates the indispensable
output filter into the feedback loop. This offers si
-
gnificant advantages which are responsible for the
unique sound quality of this digital amplifier:
a) The frequency response of the amplifier is al
-
most independent of the load while conventio
-
nal Class D-amplifiers have different frequency
responses at 2 Ohms, 4 Ohms or 8 Ohms.
b) The damping factor of the amplifier is not redu
-
ced by the resistance of the output filters. The
P SIX DSP is tapping the feedback signal on
the speaker terminals whereby the negative im
-
pacts of the resistance of the output filters and
PCB traces will be eliminated. As a result the
P SIX DSP achieves a damping factor of ap
-
prox. 1,000 over the entire audio range.
c) The distortion caused by the filter components
will be eliminated as they are incorporated into
the feedback loop.
Power Save Mode
The Power Save Mode is incorporated in the ba
-
sic setup. It allows to significantly reduce the power
consumption of the P SIX DSP and connected am-
plifiers once there’s no input signal present for more
than 60 seconds. Please note that in many up-to-
date cars with “CAN” or any other internal bus struc
-
tures it may happen that the radio remains “invisib
-
ly” turned on for up to 45 min. even after leaving
the car! Once the “Power Save Mode“ is active the
Remote Output and the internal amplifier stages will
be turned off. The HELIX P SIX DSP will reactivate
the Remote Output and the internal amplifier stages
within a second if a music signal is applied. It is pos-
sible to either modify the turn-off time of 60 sec. or
completely deactivate the “Power Save Mode” via
the DSP PC-Tool software.
Start-/Stop capability
The switched power supply of the HELIX P SIX DSP
assures a constant internal supply voltage even if
the battery’s voltage drops to 6 Volts during engine
crank.
Automatic Digital Signal Detection
Switching from analog input to the digital input is
done automatically as soon as a signal is detected
on the optical input. This feature can be deactivated
in the DSP PC-Tool software. Alternatively you can
use an optional remote control for manual switching
between analog and digital inputs.
