7.4 Establishing an SOL Session
Procedure
To establish a SOL session:
1. Pick a blade in the chassis which you want to use as the initiator to start an SOL session with
an ATCA-7540.
2. Pick which "base" interface on this initiator blade you want to use to start an SOL session
with an ATCA-7540.
3. The "base" interface you use has to have an IP address on the same subnet as the IP address
assigned to the IPMC LAN interface of the ATCA-7540 that you want to use for the SOL
session.
For example, if you want to use the IPMC LAN 1 interface on the ATCA-7540, and the IPMC
LAN 1 interface has the IP address 172.16.0.221/16, then you would have to use the
"base1" interface on the initiator blade and assign an IP address on the 172.16.0.0/16
subnet to this "base1" interface before attempting an SOL activation.
If you have less leeway to changing the "base1" IP address on the initiator blade, you could
leave this "base1" IP address on the initiator blade as is and instead change the IP address
assigned to the IPMC LAN 1 interface on the ATCA-7540 blade to be on the same subnet as
the "base1" interface on the initiator blade. You can do this using the ipmitool "lan set"
commands described earlier.
4. Start the SOL session with the ATCA-7540 blade from the initiator blade. The default user
on an ATCA-7540 for an SOL session is
soluser
; the default password is
solpasswd
. Use
cipher 1 and KG key "gkey". For example, if you are using the "base1" interface on the
initiator blade, and the IPMC LAN 1 interface on the ATCA-7540 has IP address
172.16.0.221, then you would use the following command:
ipmitool -C 1 -I lanplus -H 172.16.0.221 -U soluser -P solpasswd
-k gkey sol activate
