6. Install the shift cam plate onto the shift cam shaft and

secure with the cap screw. Tighten to 8 ft-lb.

7. Install the shift shaft into the crankcase making sure

the washer is properly located; then align the timing
reference marks and completely seat the shift shaft.

8. Apply grease to the lips of the shift shaft seal in the

shifter housing; then using a new gasket, install the
dowel pins and shifter housing and secure with the
cap screws. Tighten in a crisscross pattern to 8 ft-lb.

9. Install the gear position switch; then align and install

the shift select arm to the shift shaft using the match
marks as a guide.

10. Install the heat shield; tighten the fasteners to 20

ft-lb.

11. With the O-ring lightly coated with grease and prop-

erly positioned, install the water pump. Secure using
the two existing cap screws.
