LONG PERIODS OF INACTIVITY
When the vehicle is to remain unused for
long periods, some precautions are
necessary to avoid damage.
Do not postpone necessary repairs or you
may forget them when you take the vehicle
out of storage; a general check up is also
recommended.
Proceed as follows:
u
Empty the fuel tank and the carburetor,
see page 71 (DRAINING THE FUEL
TANK).
u
Remove the spark plug, see page 63
(SPARK PLUG).
u
Pour a teaspoon of engine oil (5-10
cu.cm) into the cylinder.
NOTE
Put a clean cloth on the cylinder,
near the spark plug seat, in order to protect
it from oil sprays.
u
Turn the ignition switch to position “
”
and press the engine start pushbutton
“
” for a few seconds, to distribute the
oil evenly on the cylinder surfaces.
u
Remove the cloth.
u
Refit the spark plug.
u
Remove the battery, see page 65

BATTERY).
u
Wash and dry the vehicle, see page 72
(CLEANING)
u
Polish painted surfaces with wax.
u
Inflate the tires, see page 74
(TECHNICAL DATA).
u
By means of a suitable support, position
the vehicle so that both tires are raised
from the ground.
u
Store the vehicle in an unheated, dry
p l a c e , a w a y f r o m s u n l i g h t , w h e r e
temperature is reasonably steady.
u
Wrap and tie a plastic bag around the
exhaust pipe opening to keep moisture
out.
u
Cover the vehicle avoiding plastic or
waterproof covers.
AFTER STORAGE
u
Remove the cover and clean the vehicle,
see page 72 (CLEANING)
u
Check battery charge, see page 66
(CHARGING THE BATTERY) and fit it,
s e e p a g e 6 6 ( I N S T A L L I N G T H E
BATTERY).
u
Fill the fuel tank, see page 35 (FUEL)
u
Perform the recommended pre-ride
c h e c k s , s e e p a g e 4 4 ( P R E - R I D E
CHECKS CHART)
Test ride the vehicle at moderate speed
in an area away from traffic.
