Caution: The ladder extension must be fully retracted before sliding the ladder along the
rails. Failure to do so may result in damage to the L VA backfill radiator.
e. When using the ladder, first move the ladder to the desired horizontal position per step C, then raise
the extension section to the desired height per step D. Climb the ladder high enough to tighten the
hand wheel clamps.
Caution: Fully tighten both hand wheel clamps to secure the top end of the ladder in the
horizontal position before doing any work from the ladder.
f. Continue climbing the ladder to the work position and attach the double locking snap hook of the
lanyard to the tie off bar once in the working position.
Caution: Do not attach the snap hook to a ladder rung. Only attach the snap hook to the tie-
off bar. Do not climb the ladder higher than the position indicated by the warning labels on
the ladder rail.
g. To descend the ladder disconnect the snap hook from the tie-off bar, climb down to a height where
the hand wheel clamps can be reached and loosen the clamps fully. Continue climbing down the
ladder to the tower platform.
Note: The hand wheel clamps must be fully loosened by turning the knob counterclockwise
until it stops. This will fully withdraw the swivel pads preventing any interference when
sliding the ladder horizontally.
h. Retract the extension section per step D and move the ladder to another horizontal position per
step C.
i. Once all maintenance activities have been completed return the ladder to the center position and
install the stow hardware per step A.
