Drawing Arcs

There are two methods of drawing Arcs.  Radius Arc allows
the user to define a center point, a radius, and the end points of
the arc.  End Points Arc allows the user to define one endpoint,
and drag the arc to the other endpoint.

To draw a Radius Arc:

1. Move the mouse cursor to the center point for the arc and

click the left mouse button.

2. Determine the extent of the arc, as though drawing an

ellipse, and click the left mouse button again.

To draw a circular arc, hold the Left keyboard Control key
down while determining the extent of the arc.

3. Move the displayed radius line to the starting point of the

arc and click the left mouse button.

4. Drag the arc to the ending point and click the left mouse

button again.

To cancel the drawing, click the right mouse button.

To draw an End Point Arc:

1. Move the mouse to the starting point and click the left

mouse button.

2. Move the mouse to the ending point and click the left

mouse button again.

To cancel the drawing, click the right mouse button.

Drawing Polygons

Drawing Polygons is similar to drawing connected lines.

1. Move the mouse cursor to the starting point for the polygon

and click the left mouse button.

2. Move the mouse cursor to the next point and click the left

mouse button again.

To draw a horizontal, vertical, or +/-45 degree angle
segment of the polygon, hold the Left keyboard Control key
down while moving the mouse cursor.

3. Continue this procedure until the last point is selected (NOT

the starting point).

4. When the last point is selected, press the RIGHT keyboard

Control key; a line is drawn from the last point selected to
the starting point, closing the polygon.

To cancel the drawing, click the right mouse button.

Note:  A polygon may have a total of 32 points.  If drawn with

more than 32 points, a warning message is displayed.

Importing Bitmaps

Excalibur CAD allows the user to import drawings created as
Windows .BMP files.  This feature can be used to import
scanned drawings, drawings created from paint programs, or
files from other graphic formats (such as AutoCAD®
drawings) converted to Windows .BMP drawings.

To import a Bitmap image, select the “Import Bitmap” entry
from the Draw menu.  A standard Windows file selection
dialog box is displayed, listing all the .BMP drawings in the
data directory.

To import a bitmap into the current map image, select the file
name of the desired bitmap image and select “OK”.  A dotted
line rectangle outlining the bitmap area will appear in the map
image.  Move the mouse to move the outline rectangle to the
desired map location, and press the left mouse button.  The
actual bitmap image will appear where placed.

After importing a bitmap image, the image can be selected and
then can be moved, copied, erased, and restacked similar to
any other object.  Refer to Editing Objects, page 4-12.

Bitmap Notes:

1. The bitmap drawing MUST be located in the DATA file

directory defined via the System Setup program (page 2-3).

2. The bitmap image will be displayed at the size at which it

was saved from the program that created the bitmap.  If the
image is too large or too small, it must be resized using a
paint program, such as the Windows Paintbrush program.

3. Bitmap files are larger than the CAD maps created by

Excalibur CAD, therefore, they take up more disc space and
load more slowly.  It is recommended that the bitmap
drawing be saved using as few colors as possible to display
the desired image.  See the Windows Operating Manual or
the manual for the paint program used to create the bitmap
image for details about colors, image size, and file size.
Using a large number of bitmap drawings will slow the
performance of Excalibur considerably when switching
from map to map.
