Alpha InTec² 25XE and 28XE
Summer setting -
This function can only be used f
or hot water oper
ation if the boiler is fitted with an Alpha Diver
ter
kit or Relay kit.
With the Alpha Div
erter kit fitted the DHW control knob on the boiler will independently control the
temperature of the hot w
ater cylinder. With the DHW rela
y kit fitted the DHW control knob on the boiler sets the
water temper
ature leaving the boiler to heat the hot w
ater cylinder.
Note:
This must be set higher than the cylinder ther
mostat to achieve the cylinder set temper
ature.
Winter setting -
In this mode the boiler will operate in both heating and hot w
ater mode according to the control requests.
With the Alpha Diver
ter kit fitted the heating of the cylinder takes pr
iority o
ver heating and once the cylinder set temper
ature
is reached the boiler will rever
t to heating if rquired according to the temperature set on the boiler heating control knob
.
Note:
This is the r
adiator water temper
ature and not room temperature
.
With the DHW relay option the boiler will oper
ate according to the exter
nal control request for either heating or hot w
ater or
both. When a request f
or heating the hot water cylinder is giv
en, the water temper
ature for both heating and hot w
ater will
be the at the set point of the hot water control knob of the boiler re
ver
ting to the heating control knob temperature once the
cylinder reaches the thermostat set point and heating is requested.
For a system fitted with a standard S or
Y plan layout with e
xternal controls the boiler should alw
ays be left in winter mode
.
During oper
ation the boiler LCD will display the temper
ature of the water lea
ving the boiler.
Note: When using a standar
d Y or S plan system the central heating water temperature m
ust be set above the
cylinder thermostat v
alue using the central heating control knob 6 in Fig.
1.
External weather compensation sensor (only f
or use with the Alpha Diverter Kit or Rela
y unit) -
The temperature of
the central heating w
ater can be adjusted by using the centr
al heating buttons (items 6 and 7 in Fig.
1). When the heating is
on the temperature of the w
ater leaving the boiler to the r
adiators will be displayed.
If an exter
nal weather compensation sensor is fitted, indicated b
y the
symbol (item 18 in Fig. 1) in the displa
y, it will
automatically var
y the temperature of the w
ater in the radiators and on mild da
y the radiators will not f
eel as hot as on a cold
day, this is nor
mal and not a fault with the boiler or heating circuit.
The room temper
ature will still be maintained as set by the
room thermostat.
When an exter
nal weather sensor is fitted, the centr
al heating control knob (item 5 in Fig. 1) will no longer adjust the flo
w
temperature in °C
, instead the display will sho
w a scale of 1 to 9. Each n
umber corresponds to a line on the graph in Fig 2
i.e. line 6 will giv
e a flow temper
ature of 60°C when the exter
nal temperature is 10°C
.
Note:
This is the temper
ature of the water supplied to the r
adiators and not the desired room temperature
. The time and
temperature will still be maintained according to the setting of the room ther
mostat.

The boiler has a built in frost protection function to protect the boiler (only) from freezing.
If water within the boiler
falls belo
w 4°C the boiler will fire in heating mode and raise the temper
ature of the heating water (in the boiler only)
to 42°C. If the circulation pump is connected to ter
minal L2 and N2 the pump will be active dur
ing frost protection
mode.
For this function to be activ
e the gas and electricity supplies to the boiler m
ust be turned on and the boiler be in either
'Standby' or 'On' mode and the frost protection enab
led in the boiler parameters
.
Further protection f
or the mains water supply and heating circuit m
ust be provided separ
ately.
If Alpha exter
nal controls are fitted, a frost protection setting is incorpor
ated into the room thermostat activ
ating the central
heating when the temperature f
alls below 5°C
.
