Cleaning the sea strainer:
• Turn off the air conditioner and the Main breakers in the
cabin AC panel. Then disconnect the shore power cord
from the boat.
• Close the air conditioner water intake valve.
• Open the top of the strainer and remove the screen.
• Thoroughly flush the screen and the inside of the strainer
to remove foreign matter.
• Lubricate the seal.
• Reassemble the strainer making sure that all fasteners are
tight.
• Open the intake valve.
• Connect the shore power and activate the Main and Air
Conditioner breakers, then activate the air conditioning
system at the control panel.
• Monitor the thru-hull fitting in the hull side for water.
Once water begins to flow, inspect the strainer for leaks.
If water does not flow within 30 seconds, the system may
have a air lock and need to be primed. Refer to Priming the
System in the first section of this chapter.
6.5 Raw Water System Maintenance
The following items should be done routinely to help maintain
your raw water system:
• Check hoses, particularly the seawater supply lines, for
signs of deterioration.
• Periodically remove and clean the water strainers located
near the intake side of the washdown and livewell pumps.
To clean the strainers, make sure the Washdown and
Baitwell switches are off and close the valves at the thru-
hull fittings. Rotate the strainer bowl counterclockwise
to release it. Remove and clean the screen with fresh
water. Lubricate the O-ring lightly with silicon or Teflon
grease and reinstall the strainer bowl.
Air Conditioning Pump and Strainer in Port Stern Bilge
• Periodically remove and clean the strainer basket on the
air conditioning pump strainer.
• Spray pumps and thru-hull valves with a protective oil
periodically.
• Operate all thru-hull valves at least once a month to keep
them operating properly.
SHOULD A HOSE RUPTURE, TURN THE PUMP OFF
IMMEDIATELY. ALWAYS CLOSE THE THRU-HULL
VALVE WHEN PERFORMING MAINTENANCE ON A
SEAWATER PUMP.
THE BATTERIES MUST BE PROPERLY CHARGED.
OPERATING ANY PUMPS FROM A BATTERY WITH A
LOW CHARGE MAY LEAD TO A PUMP FAILURE.
THE RAW WATER SYSTEM MUST BE PROPERLY
WINTERIZED PRIOR TO WINTER LAY-UP. SEE
SECTION ON WINTERIZING.
