INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Do not start the lawn mower until you have read:
The instruction Manual - the Enging Instructions.
ORDINARY SAFETY INSTRUKTIONS
1. Do not forget! At all times the operator will be liable by law if other persons are mutilated or their property damaged because of improper use.
Therefore, it is important to read this instruction manual thoroughly and to keep it.
2. Children under 16 years of age are not allowed to use the lawn mower.
3. Under no circumstances use the lawn mower for anything but cutting the grass.
4. Never allow other persons to be in the vicinity when you are using the lawn mower.
5. The operator must always be behind the lawn mower when it is in use.
6. Explain the hazards and how to avoid accidents to everyone who is to operate the lawn mower.
7. Never operate a lawn mower with defective safety devices.
8. Never change the look or the capacity of the machine.
9. Never remove stuck grass from the ejector or anywhere else on the lawn mower, until the engine has been stopped.
10. Keep your hands and feet away from the rotating blade. Always wear shoes and long trousers when mowing the lawn. Do not operate the lawn mower
with bare feet or wearing open sandals.
11. Mow only in daylight or in good artificial light.
12. Never leave the lawn mower with the engine running.
13. Never lift or carry the lawnmower while the engine is running. Never carry a lawn mower alone.
14. Only work on or around the lawn mower when the engine has been stopped and the spark plug has been disconnected.
15. The use of a hearing protector is recommended. Dust mask may be used in connection with dry weather or allergy.
16. The safety instructions of this instruction manual do not cover all conditions and situations that may arise. Good sense and caution are facts that cannot
be included in a lawn mower. These facts can only be supplied by the person maintaining and operating the lawn mower.
CUTTING THE GRASS
Avoid cutting wet grass as the risk of accidents under this condition
is highly increased.
• Always be sure of your footing when mowing on slopes. Walk! Never run!
Exercise extreme caution when changing direction. Never cut grass on slopes
dropping more than 25° seen in relation to the horizon. Always run the mower
crossways of the slope, never up and down.
• Use extreme caution when pulling the mower towards you.
Always stop the engine when crossing other surfaces than grass.
• Before cutting the grass, remove objects from the lawn that may present a dan-
ger in connection with ejection - such as stones, cones, branches, toys, etc.
Run the lawn mower evenly and steadily across the lawn Thus the most uniform
cutting result is obtained. Cut the grass twice a week in the best growth period.
Never cut more than 1/3 of the length of the grass, especially in dry periods. If
the grass is very high as e.g. after your summer holidays, then mowing should be
divided into 2 steps beginning with the highest cutting height.
Low cutting heights demand a totally even and stone free lawn. Therefore we
advise you to select the cutting height according to the quality of your lawn and
the length of the grass.
The best cutting result is obtained when the lawn is dry (without dew) and not
exposed to direct sunshine - and do not forget the more often you cut your lawn,
the more beautiful it will look.
• Never remove stuck grass from the ejection or anywhere else on the lawn
mower until the engine has been stopped.
• If the mower starts to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine immediately. Pos-
sible cause: Faulty blade or a bent engine shaft. We recommend you to contact
an autorised service dealer.
ASSEMBLY OF THE MACHINE (ill. 1)
Assemble the mower (ill. 1) as shown.
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
Before the lawn mower is put into use, read the enclosed engine
instructions for correct use and maintenance of the engine.
• Lawn mowers with internal combustion engines may not run in closed rooms
because of the danger of poisoning fumes.
Pour oil and petrol into the engine (please see the engine instructions). Recommen-
ded type of petrol: Octane 95 leadfree (**) Never start the engine with too little or
the wrong oil.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Do not add to the start/stopping devices any locking devices.
• The lawn mower should start on an even surface where the blade
does not meet any resistance.
• Always be sure to have a secure footing before starting the lawn mower.
• Do not start the lawn mower until you have read the Enging Instructions.
MANUAL START : Place the throttle control on the start symbol. (Applies only to the
models where the throttle control is attached to the handle). Pull the starter rope
until you feel resistance, and then start the engine with a quick pull. N.B. Please do
not release the starter pull until the rope has fully retracted into the starter housing
again. This protects the starter of the engine.
When the engine is running, the throttle control is placed on the speed required.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Do not add to the start/stopping devices any locking devices.
Stop the engine by placing the stop switch on STOP/0
ENGAGEMENT (ill. 2)
Do not add to the coupling link of the lawn mower with locking de-
vices.
• Do not start the lawn mower with the drive engaged.
Engage the drive of the lawn mower by pulling the coupling link against the handle,
and keep it there while cutting the grass. When the coupling link is released, the
drive is disengaged.
Avoid blocking the wheels while the engine is running as this will destroy the
V-belt.
ADJUSTING THE DRIVE (ill. 3)
In order to avoid unnecessary wear of the coupling in the gear box, it is necessary
always to keep the coupling cable correctly tightened - i.e. engagement approxim-
ately 10 mm before the coupling link touches the handle. Adjustment is only carried
through by means of the screw on the cable.
Important: Too-tight a cable can make the mower run without the coupling link
being activated.
