Skydiving rigs with and without

omatic Activation Devices (AA
D) are permitted as a carry-
on or
as checked luggage.
Typically, a r
ig will move through the checked lugg
age or carry-on security screening process without
need for phy
sical inspection. However, TSA scre
eners have a duty to thor
oughly inspect any item that
raises suspicion. If screeners de

complete
inspection,
then
the owner of the rig must be present and will be allowed to assist.
For this reason, skydivers are
advised to add at least 30 minu
tes to the airline's recommended arrival window w

en traveling
with their parachute.
The following recommendations are p

assist skydivers traveling with parachutes:

Screeners will not unpack a par
achute without the owner pres
ent
to provide assistance. This
means that the passenger
will be paged and aske

to
return
to
the
ticket
counter,
so
they
can
be present for inspectio
n. Depending
on the si
ze of the airport and passenger volume, it is
likely that the checked rig will be screened w
ithi
n 30 minutes. Remain in the area of the air
carrier ticket counter and
pay close attention
to
air
port
announcements
for up to 30 minutes
after checking in.
If TSA canno
t locate the p
arachute ow
ner, the uncl
eared parachute will not be transported on
the flig
ht.

ack the rig.

been tampered with or damag

in a manner th
