Chapter 4: Rogue AP and Station
AirMagnet Laptop Wireless LAN Policy Reference Guide
Rogue AP by SSID
AirMagnet Mobile alerts the WLAN administrator of a rogue AP by
checking against a pre-configured authorized SSID list. For example,
if your enterprise-deployed WLAN is configured only with
MyOfficeWlan and MyVoIPWlan, you would then include these two
SSIDs in the authorized SSID list. After this list is imported,
AirMagnet Mobile raises a rogue AP alarm when an AP operating in
a different SSID is discovered.
Rogue APs installed by unauthorized employees usually do not
follow enterprise standard deployment practices, and can thus
compromise security on the wireless and wired networks. A rogue
AP may also indicate malicious intruders attempting to hack into the
enterprise wired network. Rogue devices discovered by AirMagnet
Mobile should be investigated carefully.
Once a Rogue AP is identified and reported by AirMagnet
Mobile
,
the WLAN administrator may use the FIND tool to locate the rogue
device.
