Maintaining the Instrument

Power on the instrument. Watch the self-test and listen for
the distinctive clatter of the shutter

Use Advanced Function 5 Manual Operation (see
) to
check the shutter alignment. Scroll to
Shutter
with the
cursor keys. Use the
1
key to move the shutter to mid and
open positions. Use the
0
key to move the shutter back to mid
and close positions.
If the shutter is not properly aligned, call Agilent service.
Aligning the carousel
If the carousel is not properly aligned, the hole in the lid does
not line up with the cylindrical vial holder in the carousel. See
. The result is a Vial Not Dropped error. If the
alignment is off by more that a few millimeters, the holes in the
carousel for the lifters do not line up. The result is lifter errors.
Perform the following visual check:

Open and lock the lid.

Locate carousel position 1. It is marked with one small
indentation.

Use the advanced function Manual Operation (see
) to
home the carousel. Press
Menu
and select
Advanced
Functions
. On the keypad, press
5
and
Enter
. Scroll to
Carousel
. Press
1
on the keypad to move the carousel one
position in the clockwise direction. Press
0
to move the
carousel one position in the counterclockwise direction.

Scroll to
Shutter
. Press
1
to open the shutter.

Scroll to
Lifter tray
. Press
1
to raise the lifter.
6
Verify that the lifter is centered in the hole of the carousel.
7
Reset using Advanced Function 10 or power cycle the
sampler.
WA R N I N G
The surfaces of the oven, carousel, and oven lid may be hot and could
burn you. Before beginning, set the oven and loop temperatures off.
Allow the oven to cool to room temperature.
