2.9 Cooling and Thermal Management 

2.9.1 Fan Control Board 

The cooling system of PAC-4010 includes two key parts –  Fan control board (2 units 
per system) and Fan module (6 units per system). ShMC receives thermal information 
from all sensors of PAC-4010, and communicates with the control IC on the fan control 
board through I2C Bus, then the IC will send corresponding PWM signal to add/reduce 
fan speed.

The hardware monitor IC is used to be the fan controller of the system, each controls 
three fan modules –  includes fan speed and LED behavior. Besides, watchdog 
mechanism is supported by this hardware monitor IC. If ShMC fails to access the fan 
controller periodically, watchdog function will be triggered  and do power-on reset the 
fan controller = restore default fan level = 60%
