Load the sample, then press

begin testing. Testing continues at the first untested position and advances sequentially.
4.6 Calibration
The OsmoPRO was factory calibrated and the calibration data is stored within its memory.
Thus, the instrument is ready to begin all testing, as soon as the instrument is removed from
packaging.
Calibration requires no adjustment of the instrument by the user. Simply run calibration, which
prompts the user to run a test using three calibration standards: 50, 850, and 2000 mOsm/kg
H
2
O.
• When the test is complete and the calibration test is successful, the instrument
calculates and stores the calibration coefficients.
• If a calibration fails for any reason, the instrument WILL NOT calibrate and the
instrument reverts to the last successful calibration values.
• Recalibrate the instrument if the ambient temperature changes more than 5 °C from the
last calibration.
Calibration testing can only be performed within the calibration procedure. Testing of reference
materials, controls, or any unknown samples must be performed using the test procedure
described earlier.
NOTE:
Calibrate the OsmoPRO with Advanced Instruments Calibration Standards only. Use of
any other calibration standards not manufactured by Advanced Instruments may yield
inaccurate results and is NOT RECOMMENDED.
4.6.1 Starting a calibration test
To perform a calibration test press
MENU
, then press
CALIBRATION
and the
Calibration
screen appears (Figure 4.8). This screen is where calibration tests can be started and displays
instructions on how to set up a calibration test properly.
NOTE:
Read and follow the calibration instructions carefully. Testing calibration standards out of
order will result in a calibration failure.
