Osmometer Model 3900 User’s Guide
If requested to return your Model 3900 for repair or replacement, take
the following steps:
1. Turn the instrument off and disconnect the power cord.
2. Drain the heat transfer fluid reservoir as instructed in Routine
Maintenance section. Remove vented fluid fill plug from heat trans-
fer fluid port and replace with solid fluid ship cap.
3. Use dry, absorbent tissues to remove any remaining heat transfer
fluid from the sample freezing chamber.
4. Position the freezing-chamber plug O-ring on the freezing-chamber
plug such that it remains in place near the largest diameter of the
plug.
5. Gripping the freezing-chamber plug handle, push the tapered part of
the plug, with the O-ring in place, into the sample freezing chamber
with enough force to hold both in place during shipment. Doing so
will prevent any instrument damage from fluid remaining in the
cooling system.
6. Place a clean, dry probe wiper over the tips of the probe and stir
wire as shown in figure 3.
7. Manually rotate the operating head clockwise and gently lower the
wiper-covered probe into the insert test well.
8. Install the top half of the shipping fixture to securely hold the operat-
ing head during shipment.
9. Carefully pack and send the 3900 using its own specially-designed
carton and packing material (do not send supply items, cassettes,
tubes, or the reservoir drain tube unless one of these is suspected to
be the cause of a problem).
NOTE Do not tip, store, or ship the instrument without following
these steps. Shipping damage and/or liquid spillage which
must be cleaned out at the factory necessitates costly, time-
consuming service.
