8. Filtration & Pressure Differential Monitoring
The integrated pressure differential sensor
and ADEY DEK1001 Modbus controller within
the pumped sidestream unit monitors the
pressure drop across the inlet and outlet of the
MagnaClean CMX
Nano
filter as the cartridge
filters fill-up with captured system debris.
The controller has two preset warning and
alarm settings based on debris collection
rates within the spun-bonded cartridge
filters
used with the Nano filter. The first
‘warning’ setting sets off an audible and visual
alarm, warning that the installed cartridge
is beginning to fill with debris and that a
service visit will be required soon. The second
‘alarm’ setting creates an audible and visual
alarm, warning that the installed cartridge is
saturated with system debris, automatically
switching off the integrated pump. When this
alarm function is activated, a service visit
is required to clean the internal magnet and
replace the cartridge filter before the unit can
be reset and put back into filtration mode.
For accurate pressure differential monitoring
warnings and alarms, a cartridge filter must
be installed in the filter housing;
the DEK1001
controller does however feature
programmable
magnet-only service warning alarms for
when the sidestream unit filter is configured
with magnets only
, with no cartridge filter
installed.
These magnet-only warnings are
based on time elapsed
rather than differential
pressure measurement across the filter, as
there is no distinguishable pressure drop across
the filter without a cartridge installed, even
when it is full of captured magnetic debris.
These time-based alarms are important
as ADEY always recommend that when a
MagnaClean CMX
filter is installed onto an
existing heating or chilled system, the filter
should initially be configured with magnets
only.
This is to ensure that cartridge filters
aren’t needlessly wasted & blocked with
magnetic system debris; debris which can
and should be captured via the internal and
external
CMX Nano
™ magnet arrays. The
programmable daily, weekly or monthly alarms
are intended as service reminders which can
be easily reset within the controller menu.
Once magnetic capture rates begin to reduce,
5, 10, 20 or 50-micron cartridge filters can
then be installed to capture any non-magnetic
debris within the system whilst also assisting
in the capture of any remaining/reoccurring
magnetic system debris in conjunction with
the internal magnet array and where required,
the Nano External Magnetic Jacket accessory.
However, there is no right or wrong way to
configure the
MagnaClean
CMX Nano
filter.
The filter can be configured with cartridges
from day one if that is what you believe the
system requires. If you have any queries
regarding the setting up of our
MagnaClean
CMX
filters, please contact ADEY Customer
Services who will put you in direct contact
with one of our highly experienced commercial
team who will be able to assist you.
