Soft And Hard Resets
To reset the rtVAX 300 host controller from the ADE SYSTEM CONTROLLER
(CSA), select Resets from the Commands menu in the ADE SYSTEM
CONTROLLER (CSA) menu bar. (If the ADE SYSTEM CONTROLLER is not
already running, double-click the CSA
icon in the ADE Tools
folder.)
A Soft Reset reboots the rtVAX host controller and restarts its VAXeln operating
system (without resetting the actual rtVAX 300 board).
A Hard Reset reboots the rtVAX host controller, resetting the rtVAX 300 board and
restarting the VAXeln operating system. Because a Hard Reset causes the rtVAX
300 board to reset and perform a series of hardware self-tests, this entire operation
takes three to six minutes to perform.
WARNING!
Activating a hard or soft reset will cause the STANDARD
USER INTERFACE to close. Wafer data not saved to disk
and station calibration will be lost.
NOTE:
If you encounter a non-recoverable GPIB error while in the STANDARD USER
INTERFACE which causes your system to freeze or keyboard to lock up, first close
the STANDARD USER INTERFACE by pressing <ALT><F4>. In the ADE SYSTEM
CONTROLLER (CSA), select Commands, followed by Reset and then Hard
Reset. After issuing a Hard Reset, place the pointer on Commands and select
Start USC. This will restart the STANDARD USER INTERFACE and alleviate the
previous error condition. If your system is still experiencing communications or
timing problems, it may be necessary to perform a system shutdown (by double-
clicking on the SYSTEM SHUTDOWN icon) in order to reboot.
If pressing <ALT><F4> has no effect, unplug the UPS from the power source.
