9.5 Remote Monitoring with the SRCD Remote Access
Service
srcd is the remote access service for IIR controllers. With srcd running, you can manage
disk arrays from a remote workstation using storage management software (for example,
StorCon) via TCP/IP.
9.5.1 SRCD Installation Instructions
9.5.1.1 Install the SRCD package
1. SRCD is installed as part of the IIR package. If you have not done so already, copy
file iir-11.tgz from the floppy. For example, for a DOS-formatted floppy:
a. # mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt
b. # cp /mnt/iir-1.1.tgz /tmp/iir-1.1.tgz
c. # umount /mnt
2. Install the package with the command:
# pkg_add iir-1.1.tgz
This process will install the IIR driver, IIR driver source code, and modify the system
configuration files, STORCON.IIRCFG and SRCD utilities, appropriately. For
detailed information about on these utilities refer to their man pages.
3. Reboot server to put changes in effect.
The installed package contains the iir driver for FreeBSD 4.x and will automatically start
during the boot process.
9.5.1.2 Configuring SRCD
Upon completing the procedure in the previous section, SRCD is now installed and can be
used to manage the IIR RAID subsystem.
1. Configure SRCD by invoking the following command:
# /usr/sbin/srcdconf.sh
2. Remote administration/configuration of the controller on the FreeBSD machine is now
possible.
