4. Use a finger pricker with adjustable penetration
depth settings. If using a Safe-T-Pro Plus finger
pricker, select a penetration depth to suit the nature
of the patient’s skin. Start with a shallow depth
setting.
5. Select a puncture site along the side of a fingertip.
6. Insert a test strip into the meter.
7. Make sure the code number on the meter display
matches the code number on the test strip
container.
8. Lance the side of the fingertip.
9. Using gentle pressure, massage the finger towards
the fingertip to encourage a drop of blood to form. A
proper but nevertheless small drop of blood (approx.
4.0
μ
L) must form.
10. Immediately after the drop of blood has formed,
touch and hold the drop to the edge of the test
strip within the curve. Do not put blood on top of
the test strip.
11. The test strip draws up blood.
12. When you see flash, you have enough blood in
the test strip. If you applied blood but do not see
the flashing , you may reapply more, if applied
within 15 seconds.
13. The result appears on the display.
14. Remove and discard the used test strip.
