T he higher the M O D E value is, the best is the hard disk data transfer rate.
B ut this do es no t mean that yo u can select the highest mo de value as yo u like.
Y o u must be sure that yo ur hard disk suppo rts that type o f fast data transfer,
o therw ise yo ur hard disk w ill no t be able to o perate co rrectly.
H ere are so me examples o f data transfer rates fo r ID E H D D w ith D M A
mo de:
D M A M o de 0 T he fastest data transfer rate reaches 4.16M byte/sec
D M A M o de 1 T he fastest data transfer rate reaches 13.3M byte/sec
D M A M o de 2 T he fastest data transfer rate reaches 16.6M byte/sec
U sually, P IO mo de means that the hard disk data are accessed by the C P U
thro ugh the chipset and placed into memo ry, and the chipset is using P IO mo de
to access hard disk data.
M A S T E R mo de means that hard disk data are accessed by the chipset, and
that the chipset places the data into memo ry. T he chipset is using D M A o r P IO
mo de to access data sto red in the hard disk drive. T he M aster mo de can reduce
the C P U lo ad, especially in a M ulti-task enviro nment. T his can help system
perfo rmance.
