Application area
The operating unit JSD - TD25P-xxxxxx/JSTD25P-1 can be used in all areas where the application
requires two-handed operation; this may require an approval function with the addition of both hands or
a two-hand control in accordance with DIN EN ISO 13851:2019. In what way should you integrate the
operating unit in your control unit depends on the related risk assessment of the machine and
application.
Application as a manual input device / enabling device
Control functions and scope of application in which, a command device is used after
successful risk assessment which requires use of both hands on the control unit for
controlling functions.
In these cases to reduce risk, DIN EN ISO 12100:2010
(General principles for design risk assessment and risk reduction) must be used.
Use as two-hand control
Control functions and application areas in which a two-hand control is necessary after a
risk assessment according to DIN EN ISO 13851:2019 to trigger the dangerous movement.
The use and installation of the two-hand control unit or assembly of the holder must be in
compliance with DIN EN ISO 13851:2019 (two-hand controls) and
DIN EN 13855:2010 (Safety of machinery
– Positioning of safeguards with respect to the
approach speeds of parts of the human body).
According to the standards, portable two-hand controls must be equipped with devices
which prevent a change in position during operation.
For this purpose, both mechanical, but preferably control technical solutions (described
below) are possible.
Selection of the operating unit (with integrated sensor "EVA"), installation of holder "JSD-
SBFW-xxx" (JSD TD25P-xxxxxx
) or “JSMC14” (JSTD25P-1) specially adapted to the
operating unit and the non-contact safety sensor "ADAM" outside the risk zone.
The two-hand stations with the control unit / actuator combination JSD-TD25P-xxxxxx/
JSTD25P-1 and with a downstream safety device Sentry (SSR20, SSr20M, USR10 or
USR22 optional in conjunction with Vital for the safety position monitoring), or with
downstream Pluto safety PLC according to the manufacturer's specifications, fulfill both the
requirements according to DIN EN ISO 13851:2019 (two-hand controls) for two-hand
control type IIIC and the requirements of EN ISO 13849-1 (Safety-related parts of control
systems) for safety functions up to Performance Level PLe, or according to EN 62061 /
SIL3. The use of other safety switching devices can lead to a lower performance level, a
lower type classification according to DIN EN ISO 13851:2019, and/or exceeding of the
voltage and/or current limit values of the Safeball
™.
In the case of refitting of or changes to machines, the responsible operator shall represent the
constructor of a machine.
