Cantar-X User Manual v2.26 (r13) 2009 April 27
p.29
p.29
The 3 Screen paradigm
Here is where the Cantar screen lay-out is at its best: signals
going to the left ear are displayed on the left, signals to be
listened to in mono are displayed on the middle, and those
going to the right ear are displayed on the right.
The middle
screen does not represent a wired output but the 'mono' ef-
fect resulting from the routing to both the left and right ears.
Create Out-Maps
Rotate the [MainSelector] to six o'clock.
note:
to avoid the activation of PLAY and BROWSE while go-
ing to ROUTINGS, the triggering of these two functions is slightly
delayed.
Grouped in banks accessible from the black [monitor] crown,
nine
Out-Maps
are shared by digi-out
Do
, foldback
Fb
and
line-out
Lo
, and eleven are devoted to the phones
Ph
.
The eight tracks, the miXa and miXb outputs, the nine ana-
log and the six digital inputs (recorded or not) are indepen-
dently routed to the outputs, which are treated in the same
manor since they all carry a left and a right channel.
The '
Ph d
'
example below is applicable to any output.
• Tracks to outputs
Rotate the [monitor] crown to
Ph
, the left circular screen
displays
Ph
. Rotate the [config] crown to get
d

middle circular screen.
left screen:
[jog] the black blinking cursor to the T5 square,
press the [black] button to
'link'
track 5 to the left ear (press
the [gold] button to
'unlink'
), the blinking frequency increas-
es to acknowledge the link (do the same for T7).
middle screen:
[jog] the black blinking cursor to T1, press
the [black] button to link track 1 to both the left and right ears
(same for T2).
right screen:
[jog] to T6, press the [black] button to link
track 6 to the right ear (same for T8).
If you want an '
m–s
' recorded track pair (say T5 T6) to be sent
as L/R stereo to the

,

,

outputs, create an Out-Map in
which T5 goes to the left and T6 to the right, Cantar will
auto-
matically
decode these M/S tracks as L/R.
This applies to the
T1T2 and T3T4 pairs too, alone or together.
• Inputs to outputs
Any input (mic1 – 5, line1 – 4, digi1 – 6), can be sent to the
outputs. While the blinking black cursor jogs on the inner
ring of the circular screen, it points out the input to be pos-
sibly routed to the left/both/right ears, 'link' the desired input
by pressing the [black] button.

the

of each.
