LAN

This chapter describes how to configure LAN settings.

7.1 LAN Overview

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a shared communication system to which many computers
are attached. A LAN is a computer network limited to the immediate area, usually the same
building or floor of a building. Use the LAN screen to configure the PLA450’s IP address to
be on your network.

7.1.1 Factory LAN Defaults

The LAN parameters of the PLA450 are preset in the factory with the following values:

• IP address of 192.168.1.2
• subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (24 bits)

7.1.2 IP Address

Every computer on your network must have a unique IP address. The Internet Assigned
Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the following three blocks of IP addresses
specifically for private networks.

The PLA450’s IP address can be assigned manually (a static or ‘fixed’ IP address) or by a
DHCP server on your network.

Regardless of your particular situation, do not create an arbitrary IP address;
always follow the guidelines above. For more information on address
assignment, please refer to RFC 1597, Address Allocation for Private Internets
and RFC 1466, Guidelines for Management of IP Address Space.
