ESSID Settings
screen apply only to the ESSID
currently selected in the list.
The following table describes the labels in this screen.

DESCRIPTION
ESSID Settings
Select an ESSID from the list. If none are present, enter an ESSID in the field below
the list, then click the
Add
button. Each ESSID can be configured with the
parameters listed on the right side of the set up screen.
You can also
Rename
an existing ESSID, or
Delete
it. Simply select it in the list and
then click the appropriate button.
Allow Default
ESSID
Select this option if you want to allow a wireless device to connect to the NXC-8160
WLAN without requesting a specific ESSID (i.e., “default” or “any” ESSID). If this
option is disabled, then a wireless device must connect to a specific ESSID.
Display ESSID in
Beacon
Select this option to provide an additional layer of security. The AP sends out a
public “here I am!” broadcast (or “beacon”) with information about the network. If not
selected, then the ESSID does not appear in the beacon, effectively hiding it.
Allow Store &
Forward
Select this option to allow two wireless devices connected to the NXC-8160 WLAN
with the same ESSID to communicate and transfer data with one another. Traffic
between wireless devices is not forwarded to the NXC-8160. If this option is not
selected, then all traffic must first go through the NXC-8160.
Note: Disabling Allow Store & Forward also disables the Allow Inter-
Ess Forward option.
Allow Inter-Ess
Forward
An Extended Service Set (ESS) consists of a series of overlapping Basic Service
Sets, each containing a single access point and with each access point connected
together by a wired network. This type of wireless LAN topology is called an
Infrastructure WLAN.
Select this option to allow wireless clients using different ESSIDs to communicate
with each other. Traffic between them will not go through the NXC-8160. If left un-
selected, then the traffice is routed through the NXC-8160.
Note: To allow Inter-ESS forwarding, you need to enable this feature
on both wireless networks. The wireless networks should also
belong to the same VLAN group, if activated.
Enable Multicast
Select this option to support multicast and broadcast packets for the selected
ESSID. When enabled, multicast and/or broadcast packets are transmitted from all
Access Points.
Enable ARP
Caching
Select this option to provide an immediate response to ARP requests directed
towards WLAN stations associated with the selected ESSID. The switch answers
on behalf of the WLAN stations.
MAC ACL
Select this option to assign a MAC-based Access Control List to the ESSID. Only
clients with MAC addresses included in this list are allowed to access the network.
Use the
MAC ACL
tab to manage the list for the selected ESSID.
802.11d Support
Select this to enable support for the 802.11d wireless standard .The purpose of this
standard is to provide regulation domains for each country in a predefined list. The
regulation domains and country information are provided as part of the beacons &
probe response.
