4.2.1.4 RADIUS
The NXC-8160 can use an external RADIUS server to authenticate users. RADIUS is based
on a client-sever model that supports authentication and accounting, where access point is the
client and the server is the RADIUS server.
• Authentication
Determines the identity of the users.
• Accounting
Keeps track of the client’s network activity.
RADIUS user is a simple package exchange in which your NXC-8160 acts as a message relay
between the wireless station and the network RADIUS server.
4.2.2 Configuring ESSID Security Settings
The following section describe the properties, virtues and drawbacks of the available security
settings schemes in the NXC-8160.
4.2.2.1 No Security
Simply put, this option provides no security whatsoever over the wireless network.

If you do not enable any wireless security on your NXC-8160, your network is
open to any wireless networking device within range of it.

4.2.2.2 Static WEP (WEP64 & WEP128)
Static WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) encryption scrambles all data packets transmitted
between the NXC-8160 and the AP or other wireless devices in order to keep network
communications private. Both the wireless devices and the NXC-8160 must use the same
WEP key for data encryption and decryption.
Your NXC-8160 allows you to configure up to four 64-bit or 128-bit WEP keys, but only one
key can be used at any one time.
