Mandatory Fields

The

proxy_addr

parameter must be set in order for the ZIP4x4 phone to function properly. The

proxy server receives SIP requests from the phone and forwards them to the next intermediate

device in the network. This parameter sets the address of the proxy server for the phone and

provides no meaningful default if it is omitted from the configuration files.

C.4.2.2

Mandatory Parameter Settings

Although the following parameters are properly set by the default values, it is highly

recommended that the configuration files explicitly define the settings for these variables.

use_proxy:

This parameter enables the sending of SIP requests through the proxy server, which is

necessary for normal phone operation. This parameter must always be set to ‘yes’.

register_w_proxy:

This parameter enables the phone to register with the proxy server. This

parameter must always be set to ‘yes’.

Sample Configuration File

Figure C-6 displays the SIP settings section from a sample configuration file.

sip_non_invite_retrans

Specifies number of unsuccessful retransmissions (other

than INVITE) before phone switches to backup proxy. Valid

settings range from 1 to 10.
Default value is 10

subscription_expires

Specifies time period, in seconds, after which a SUBSCRIBE

expires. This value is inserted into the Expires header field.

Valid settings are any positive number. Recommended

value is 3600.
Default value is 3600.

voice_mail_uri

Specifies the name or extension of the voice mail server
Default value is voice.mail
