Provisioning the Phone
5.1
Introduction
This chapter describes the ZIP2 telephone configuration process. You can either provision the
phone to obtain its configuration from the DHCP server or manually set the IP addresses for the
ZIP2 and the various network servers.
Information provided by this chapter includes factory preset DHCP and IP address settings, steps
for configuring the phone, options required for full DHCP support, and the boot process used by
the phone, and an introduction to the Download and Configuration Web Page Utility.
5.2
Initial Provisioning
Each ZIP2 phone is initially programmed with the following parameter settings:
•
DHCP is disabled
•
IP Address is 168.192.1.100
5.2.1
DHCP Support
The ZIP2 can automatically obtain its configuration from the DHCP server when the DHCP
option is enabled.
5.2.1.1
Activating DHCP
The ZIP2 phone provides three methods of enabling DHCP:
•
Take the handset off hook, press the ‘1’ button, then power cycle the phone. To power cycle
the phone, unplug the power cable from the top panel, wait a few seconds, then plug the
power cable back into the phone. The red LED will flash, followed by the yellow LED. Do not
release the ‘1’ button until the yellow LED flashes.
This method also restores factory defaults.
•
Access the LAN Configuration page of the Download and Configuration Utility, as described
by section 5.3.1 on page 22 and section 5.3.2 on page 23.
•
Execute configuration files through the TFTP server. See Appendix B, starting on page 61.
