Repair
REPAIR
Replace Alternator Belt
1. Disconnect battery negative (-) cable from the
battery.
2. Remove belt guard.
3. Remove seawater pump belt.

2 – Coolant Pump
3 – Crankshaft
4 – Alternator
5 – Fixed Idler
6 – Seawater Pump
7 – Power Steering Pump (Stern Drive Only)
Note:
(Figure 11-1, (A))
shows belt routing for
stern drive standard models.
(Figure 11-1, (B))
shows belt routing for
marine gear standard models.
4. Use a socket and breaker bar to rotate the belt
tensioner and relieve belt tension. Remove belt.
IMPORTANT
If belt is to be reused, note direction of travel
and install in same direction of travel.
5. Installation is the reverse of removal.
IMPORTANT
Ensure belt correctly engages all grooves of
each pulley. Failure to do so will lead to
premature belt failure.

PINCH HAZARD!
Use care not to catch finger between
belt and pulley while installing belt.
Failure to comply may result in minor or
moderate injury.
