“Engine runs irregularly.” or “Engine trouble warning light is illuminated.”
* Engine trouble warning light may not be illuminated even if the engine runs irregularly.
When the engine trouble warning light is illumi-
nated
Checking the self-diagnostic fault code number:
Check the self-diagnostic fault code number dis-
played on the meter.
Specifying the malfunctioned system:
Specify the malfunctioned system by referring to
the Fail-safe actions table.
Presuming the cause:
Presume the malfunction cause by referring to the
Diagnostic monitoring code table.
Checking and repaining the presumed place of
malfunction.

Check and repair in
accordance with the
“Troubleshooting de-
tails”, monitoring the
operation of sensor
and actuator in the
Diagnostic monitoring
mode (Refer to “SEN-
SOR OPERATION
TABLE/ACTUATOR
OPERATION TABLE”
in chapter 7.). Check and repair in
accordance with the
trouble shooting de-
tails.
ECU reinstatement action:
Perform ECU reinstatement action referring to the
reinstatement method in the troubleshooting details.
Checking the meter display:
Check whether the self-diagnostic fault code num-
ber is shown after turning the main switch OFF
once, and then turning it back ON.
Erasing the melfunction history:*
Malfunction history will be stored even if the main
switch is turned OFF. To erase the malfunction his-
tory, it is required to operate to erase the malfunc-
tion history in the Diagnostic monitoring mode.
(Refer to “SENSOR OPERATION TABLE” in chap-
ter 7.)
Repair Completion
When the engine trouble warning light is not illumi-
nated
Inspecting the sensor actuator:Check the opera-
tion of following sensors and actuators in the Diag-
nostic monitoring mode (Refer to “SENSOR OP-
ERATION TABLE/ ACTUATOR OPERATION
TABLE” in chapter 7.)
01: Throttle position sensor (throttle angle)
30: Ignition coil #1
31: Ignition coil #2
36: Injector #1
37: Injector #2
48: Al system solenoid
49: In take solenoid
Malfunction of en-
gine unit
Defective sensor
or actuator
Check and repair
the inner parts of
engine referring to
the engine edition
of Chapter 5.
Check and repair
the corresponding
sensor or actuator.
