: Airlock ventilation
The pressure is balanced between the airlock
chambers and the machine hopper (see illustra-
tion). Compressed air in the top turning cham-
bers is decompressed the hopper. The chamber
is now depressurised. This prevents swirling up
of material and accelerates gravity driven airlock
chamber filling.
